Here are some photos from Saturday, the day of the Lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon.
Some volunteers had to show up for their shift as early as 5 AM if they signed up for gear check. I volunteered to be a course marshal and I had to be there at 6:15 AM. We were the first water and aid station, at around the 5 or 6 K mark.
The race start was 7 AM!
By the time the first runners would reach our area, it would be around 7:15 AM or so. In the meantime, the aid volunteers had to fill up hundreds of cups of water and cut up bananas among other things.
Finally, we got the word that they were close to our area!
Here are the first runners!
Before long, the area was packed with runners grabbing their first water of the race.
They weren’t that careful and I got splashed with water as they threw their cups on the ground.
It was a constant stream of runners until we got word that the last runners were approaching. We gave a big cheer to them and then finished dismantling the area.
I ran across the Burrard bridge toward the 6 mile mark, to cheer them on again. Some runners remembered me from the earlier station. This was where there was another water station where my friends were volunteering.
This is the area right beside the Lululemon headquarters building. There were lots of staff dressed in red and yellow cheering on the runners!
After that I went home. I didn’t go to the finish line, but I saw the photos and it looked absolutely exciting and amazing! Great race!
