Lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon 2015 Set Up

Today was the set up day for the 2015 Lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon!

I volunteered with the set up group. We first picked up any trash so that they could lay down the turf. There wasn’t much so it didn’t take us long.

We had a great group of volunteers working! Most were runners who will be running this Saturday! Almost all were from out of town: Michigan, Chicago, San Francisco, Salmon Arm. There were only two of us from Vancouver. They didn’t have our shirts unpacked yet.

Here’s one of the assembly groups. I did this last year and wasn’t good at it!

These are just of a few of the 10,016s of bags that we assembled for the runners! I loved this bag a lot more than last year’s! And there are three different water bottle sayings so I hope that I get the one that I like best!

We got to preview the store. It looked just as big as last year. We were warned not to take any photos of any of the limited edition items and put them on social media before the grand unveiling tomorrow at 7 AM. I’m really happy that the runners will get to shop at 7 AM to 9:30 AM before the general public is let in. (Package pick up can wait! lol) Last year, people started to line up at 3AM and I expect people will do the same this year. I will be lining up earlier because I really don’t want to miss out on the things I’ve picked out!

I did see a few things that I will buy, I especially loved one bag, some shorts and some tops and bras! I know that the others who got to see the store were also impressed and will go early to shop! As usual, I’m sure that these limited edition items will sell out quickly!

Lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon Exclusive Runner Shop Sale Sneakius Peekius 2015

This is a copy of an email that I received from Lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon. For the first time, runners will be able to get first crack at the exclusive Special Edition Seawheeze gear!

Each runner received a special email that will allow us early access to the Seawheeze store. This has been a sore point with runners from previous Seawheeze races because they would have to line up with the general public. This line was like Black Friday. People would start to line up the previous night. A lot of them would grab a lot and then promptly put it on eBay to sell.

After so many complaints, Lululemon Seawheeze finally listened and will now allow the runners into the store first from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM. Then, the general public will be allowed in at 10:00 AM.

I am all excited about running this race for the first time! I’ve run many races, including marathons and half marathons, but this is the first Seawheeze for me! I’ve always volunteered for the race but I’m finally running it this year.

I’m trying to decide what to buy…and what time I should start lining up in the special runner’s line!

Take a look at this preview. What would you buy??

Dearest SeaWheezer,The pressure is building in the Excit-O-Chamber. And every science type worth their sodium nitrate knows that the best way to let out pressure in an Excit-O-Chamber is with a little sneak peek of some Special Edition SeaWheeze gear.

The Special Edition SeaWheeze product will be available at the SeaWheeze Showcase Store in the Vancouver Convention Centre (999 Canada Place, West building, Ballroom A).This year—based on your feedback—we’ve created a special “runners only” shopping experience that will be hosted by the SeaWheeze Showcase Store. The Exclusive Runners Shop will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 from 7am to 9:30am. Watch this space—we’ll be sending you a ticket to this exclusive event. The SeaWheeze Showcase Store will be open to the whole community from 10am to 8pm. The store accepts debit, credit and gift card but won’t be accepting cash this year. If you’re visiting from out of town, give your bank the heads up that you’ll be doing some shopping in Vancouver so it doesn’t put a precautionary hold on your account.Just a reminder, the SeaWheeze Showcase Store has a 15 garment limit per guest, and a limit of three items in the size and colour.

Last Sunday Yoga Class at the Old Robson Lululemon Store, Construction on the New Burrard Store

Now that the new Lululemon Flagship store is almost finished for the Opening, the old Robson Street Lululemon store is ready to close its doors. They have been having regular Thursday morning and Sunday morning yoga classes for a long time. This was a photo of the last Sunday class.

Here are photos of the last-minute construction on the new flagship store. I can’t imagine how much overtime they must be paying these construction workers! I wonder if it will all get done for the opening on Tuesday. The grand opening will be on Thursday, just in time to launch the 2014 Lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon. I can hardly wait to see it!

Lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon 2013 Volunteer Sign Up

Lululemon is having its second Seawheeze Half Marathon this August 10, 2013. For runners, the race was sold out quite quickly months ago.

Seawheeze2013logo

For those who’d still like to participate in this event, you can volunteer!

Taken from the website:

Volunteer

We love volunteers! There are a number of ways to get involved, and volunteer opportunities on Thursday August 8, Friday August 9, and Saturday August 10.  All volunteers will receive a lululemon shirt (sweet swag right?!) and access to the SeaWheeze Sunset Festival. The pre-SeaWheeze volunteer training session comes complete with yoga practice and goal coaching.

Interested in joining the SeaWheeze volunteer team? Volunteer Registration is open now! Click the link below to sign up to be part of SeaWheeze 2013.

I volunteered last year for this event and had a really wonderful time. You can check out my blog posts about the 2012 Seawheeze.

I signed up to volunteer for this year’s event as well. Today, was the first day that the assorted volunteer positions would be up for grabs. I received the email at around 1 PM and by the time I got around to checking it out an hour or so later, most of the positions were full!

I signed up for one position which isn’t exactly what I wanted to do but was all that was left. I didn’t want to volunteer on race day because most of those positions start at 6AM!

There are a few volunteer positions still available for those who will be in Vancouver and are interested in volunteering for the event. If so, I would register asap.

Lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon 2012 Video

http://youtu.be/9t0PObnkem0

Thought I’d post the Seawheeze video (official?) that was posted on my neighborhood blog (kitsilano.ca, neighborhood of the first Lululemon store).

This video gives a nice view of how awesome the first Seawheeze was last weekend! Hopefully, people will think about participating next year!

Lululemon Photos from the Seawheeze Half Marathon Party Zone 2

I took some photos at the Seawheeze Half Marathon race this morning.

Unfortunately, I woke up late so by the time I got there, most of the racers had past this point. The race started at 7:37 AM and I was almost 6 miles into the race where I was.

It was advertised as:

party zone 2- the world’s largest cheer station

Come out and cheer our runners on at the toughest part of the half marathon, there will be pom-poms, vuvuzelas and sassy signs.

Join us for a complimentary pancake breakfast provided by The Boathouse, high fives and the world’s largest cheer station. We’re gonna be making some noise so bring your “A” game.

time: 7am – 10am

Unfortunately, there wasn’t anywhere near ‘the world’s largest cheer station’ by the time I got there at 9AM. In fact, most of the runners weren’t running, they were walking!

Still, there was a cheer group by the Kitsilano Lululemon still cheering them on as they walked by. I’d say the majority of those cheering were Lululemon employees. They were holding the signs Lululemon had had printed up (and were in the store window) and were waving shredded Lululemon bags as pom poms.

Here’s a mascot!

Not sure what the caveman theme was all about?

There was a pancake breakfast but I think that there was something wrong with the grill because it took 15 minutes (literally!) before I got barely cooked pancakes.

David’s tea had small paper cups of refreshing pineapple tea.

There was a lone band playing half way up the street. I’m sure they were appreciated earlier in the morning.

Here was a few runners with a pace bicycle close by.

They had a few kids playing with some blocks.

I walked down West 4th to see if there was another cheer group and there was a block away.

At Cypress, there was a group of young girls and their parents wearing Ivivva purple outfits.

I’m sure they must have been given them to cheer. They looked nice all matching in their outfits.

Promptly at 9:55 AM, they disbanded and started leaving.

If they wanted to attract more people to cheer, they should have advertised more and maybe offer free lululemon clothing, like they did with the Ivivva girls. I hope there was more cheering at other spots.

Lululemon Seawheeze 2012 Attractions

Here are some of the attractions at the first annual Lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon!

Here is the welcome sign outside the Vancouver Trade and Convention Center.

Here is the parcel pick up area. This is where I volunteered for the evening. Whenever I volunteer for marathons, I like this area because I get to meet the runners! I heard from another volunteer that only 30% of the runners are local (from the Vancouver area). The rest of the 7500 runners (70%) are from outside the area. From my experience, an overwhelming number are from Washington state, Seattle.

This is the long line up for the cash register. I couldn’t believe that it was so busy at 2PM! Later, when I started my shift, the line was never this busy.

Here is a disc jockey playing tunes with the magnificent view in the background. They say that there will be plenty of music in this race!

Just outside is the luon lounge. I had no idea what this was from the description in the website. It is a beautiful relaxation oasis with lts of areas to sit on comfy couches, hammocks, chairs. You can see the mountains in the background.

Here is one of the hammocks, made of Lululemon straps! They were always occupied!

Here’s a different angle of the luon lounge. See the Omega carved stool!

See the schedule for the two days that includes free yoga classes, goal setting, things to do in Vancouver, etc.

Here’s the sign that points us to gear check, store, massage, medical, etc.

What was this long line up for?

Free massages! There were rows and rows of massage tables. No wonder there was a line up!

You can see the orca in the background, and the colorful orange mascot!

They even had a lady on stilts!

Some more activities available.

Here was a large crate that looked like somebody’s living room!

Right beside it is a large white wall where people put their 2012 thoughts and goals! The man is wearing the gear check bag.

Here’s somebody writing down her goals!

Here’s some others doing the same.

Here’s a place for air brush tattoos! Lots of people were getting them on their legs for tomorrow’s race!

Here’s the bike check…

Here was the fruit freezee guy! I had the best tasting watermelon frozen pop I’ve ever had!

This is the race chip activator. The chip has Chip Wilson’s face on it. I guess being from Vancouver, I’m so used to knowing who he is. There was one runner I checked in who was asking, ‘And who’s this guy on the race chip?’.

This is the pick up point for the free Native flip flops. They were very popular!

Here is the unlit Olympic Cauldron for the flames from the 2010 Winter olympics. It is dusk.

Here’s another view.

Here’s the map of the course! The race starts at 7:37 AM!

I’ll be out there cheering the runners on!

Lululemon Three Days before the Seawheeze Half Marathon!

Only three days before the first Seawheeze Half Marathon, this Saturday, August 11, 2012!

As I mentioned before, although I’m a runner, I decided long ago not to run this event because I thought it was too expensive to enter. ($128) That’s a pretty pricey cost for a half marathon. Most full marathons aren’t even that expensive.

You do get a pair of shorts (retail $54) that are white with colored polka dots. I saw them on somebody’s blog and they are cute enough I suppose. I’m not sure what the men get.

I am volunteering on Friday night, at package pick up. I’ve volunteered at many other races (mostly marathons) in the past.

I was surprised, however, to find that my other volunteer gig was changed without even asking me if it was okay. I had purposely signed up far ahead to make sure I’d get the right location for the morning of the race.

For the morning of the race, one of the organizers just put me at a different part of the course (ie: farther away from where I wanted to be). That would mean that I would have to get myself there (no public transport or parking) very early in the morning. That is why I chose the area close to where I live-so I could walk there.

When I emailed them back, they responded, no apology, just said,

‘Due to a shortage of course marshals we had to consolidate our needs.’

So I had to cancel. I will be one of the non-official volunteer cheering sections on the Kitsilano side instead. I think I’d have more fun that way anyway.

Although the race is closed to runners, there’s still a handful of volunteer gigs available in case you want to be a part of Lululemon history!
